Man hit and killed by Warwick police cruiser
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – Warwick police confirmed that a man was hit and killed by a police cruiser Monday night in the area of 2783 West Shore Rd.
Calls came in around 11:15 p.m. Monday for reports of a man who ran into the path of a marked police car, according to police.
Police said that Brian Adams, 25, of Warwick, was taken to Kent Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The identity of the man is not being released at this time.
At least one other car on the roadway almost hit Adams, who was coming from the intersection of West Shore Road and Sunny Cove Drive, police say.
Warwick police say that the officer who was involved in the crash was officer Thomas Paine who began his career as a Warwick police officer in 2017.
There is no evidence that distracted driving was a contributing cause in the crash and speed was not a factor, according to an investigation by Traffic Accident Reconstruction Specialists from both Warwick Police and Rhode Island State Police (RISP).
The accident and circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation by both Warwick police and RISP.
