CENTRAL FALLS, R.I (WLNE) - Central Falls police arrested an attorney back in October for collecting the pension of his deceased father, by pretending to be his deceased mother.
On October 31, the police department was notified by the Central Falls Finance Department regarding the theft of pension funds from a deceased police officer.
According to the department, Attorney Raymond Haskell Jr. has been collecting fraudulent payments since 2014 for a total of $63,479.28.
The pension funds initially belonged to Haskell's father, Raymond Haskell Sr.
The Haskell's father passed away in 1997, the pension was transferred over to his mother, Laura Haskell, who died in 2014.
After Laura Haskell died, police say pension payments should have ceased, but the city of Central Falls received a returned pension transition form in October of 2019 signed by Laura Haskell, indicating she was alive and was eligible to receive the pension.
Haskell Jr. turned himself over to central Falls Police on Thursday morning and was arraigned in Providence District Court on charges of Obtaining Money Under False Pretenses/Personation, Identity Fraud, Forgery, and Giving False Documents to a Public Official.
