Providence (WLNE)- Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza signed a five-year $222-million capital improvement plan Thursday.

The mayor has pledged funds toward investment in Providence's parks, roads, and recreation centers.

"Building roads that are safe, accessible," said Elorza. "This means creating parks and green spaces in every part of our community."

The mayor was joined by members of the city council at the Zucculo Recreation Center in the city's Federal Hill neighborhood.

The center will be among the beneficiaries of the bill, receiving $175,000.

"There's so many people affected by this recreation center," said Zuccolo Center director Jackie Poulios.

For children in the neighborhood, "It's really their home away from home," Poulios said.
