Love triangle revealed as a possible motive behind Fall River murder
FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE): Nathan Silva, accused of murdering Jorge Vieira in the parking lot of Bay Village apartments in Fall River, was held without bail until his next court date.
According to police, Silva and Vieira were arguing when Silva stabbed Vieira in the parking lot. Silva went into an apartment in the complex, rented by Jessica Brophy, to clean up.
Brophy was charged with accessory to murder after the fact.
Vieira's parents spoke to ABC6 News on camera and said it was a love triangle among the men and Brophy gone wrong.
"She was playing with both of them and my son happened to get caught in the crossfire," Anna Vieira said.
According to the police report, Brophy told investigators she was dating Silva.
It was revealed in court that Vieira was Brophy's ex and they dated for about 3 months.
Silva's defense attorney, Frank Camera, said Vieira showed up at Brophy's apartment upset, the morning of the murder.
"Mr. Vieira had been texting Ms. Brophy throughout the night and had come to the apartment aggressively in a manner that concerned the parties," Camera said. "There were children in the apartment."
Camera claims Silva then tried to defuse the situation and instead a physical fight broke out. However, he claims Vieira struck first.
"We believe brass knuckles may have been used by Mr. Vieira," Camera said.
Vieira's mother said it does not matter who started the fight.
"My son didn't deserve to get murdered over a fight," Vieira said.
Vieira said she will remember her son as the quite, lovable man he was.
"He never wanted conflict with anyone," Vieira said. "He was just a good person all the way around. I couldn't ask for a better son. "
Silva is due back in court on March 4th.
Brophy was released to home confinement with a GPS monitor and is due back in court in February.
