Stoughton officials locate human remains while digging new grave

STOUGHTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office said human remains were found by workers digging a fresh grave in Stoughton.
Officials said the remains were found at Dry Pond Cemetery on Bay Road and were not contained in a coffin.
Police said they excavated the remains on Friday and transported them to the Chief Medical Examiner’s office in Boston.
The origin of the remains, the identity of the person, the cause and manner of the person’s death as well as how the remains came to be in the cemetery are all unknown, according to authorities.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
Officials said in a post to social media that they will be updating the public with information as it is released.
