Fall River PD: Durfee High student arrested after trying to break into car to get gun

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) – A student at Durfee High School was arrested Wednesday afternoon after police said he attempted to break into a car that had a firearm inside.

Police were called to B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River around 4:21 p.m. for reports of a “juvenile male” breaking into a car. Officers learned that the car belonged to a fellow student at Durfee High School. When police arrived, the boy attempted to flee the scene. Police said, when the boy was caught, they learned he had been attempting to retrieve a firearm that was inside a bag in the trunk of the car.

Fall River police say the owner of the vehicle had allowed another student to keep the bag in the trunk of her car.

The handgun was seized by officers and is now being analyzed.

Officers arrested the juvenile male on the following charges:

  • Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
  • Attempt to Commit a Crime, and
  • Assault

Police say there is no indication that the firearm was brought inside the school.

This investigation is ongoing.
