Sunny and warm for Memorial Day Weekend
PROVIDENCE, R.I.(WLNE) –We are warming up all across the Northeast- I will be a beautiful day from Maine to Washington D.C.
For today, sunny skies with temps in the upper 60’s to 70’s. Coastal Seabreeze will keep you a bit cooler.
We have a high pressure system that parks over us and that helps keep Saturday, Sunday, and Monday dry. The rain stays down in the Carolina’s, and for us, that mean we will have a nice Memorial Day weekend.
The UV Index is running high this weekend. Make sure you are protecting yourself from the harmful rays of the sun.
The UV index scale ranges from from 1 to 11+. And it allows people to understand the level of UV radiation and how to plan accordingly. Low numbers mean less risk, while higher numbers indicate a greater risk. When planning outdoor activities, anything over a 6 you need to protect yourself from harmful effects of overexposure to the sun’s UV rays.
Prolonged time and exposure to UV rays can cause sunburns, premature aging, and long-term skin damage. Knowing the UV index can help individuals protect their skin by taking appropriate precautions like using sunscreen, wearing protective clothing, or avoiding the sun during peak hours.
UV rays can also damage the eyes, leading to conditions like cataracts and macular degeneration. So, make sure you wear sunglasses with UV protection.
