CRANSTON, R.I. – A man wanted for two bank robberies in Cranston was arrested on Friday.

24-year-old Nicholas Loverdi was found by police hiding in his closet and arraigned on two counts of 2nd degree robbery with bail set at $30,000 with surety.

Police say they were able to match a surveillance image from a robbery of Bank RI back in January to a Webster Bank robbery on Tuesday.

The images appeared to show a man wearing the same jacket and scarf.

With an arrest warrant and affidavit in hand, Cranston Detectives as well as Rhode Island State Police Troopers attempted to arrest Loverdi at an Exeter rehabilitation facility on Thursday, but he fled.

According to police, a citizen had also reported on Friday morning that his pick up truck containing a rifle, shotgun and ammunition had been stolen from the area near the rehab facility.

The truck was found abandoned on Sterling Street in Providence Friday afternoon.

Rhode Island State Police also arraigned Loverdi on one count of possession of a stolen vehicle with bail set at $10,000 bail with surety.
