Suspect in custody after Woonsocket hit & run

Woonsocket Police have taken a man into custody after they believe he intentionally hit a pedestrian with his vehicle Friday afternoon.

The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

The suspect drove into the pedestrian on Wood Avenue around 1 p.m., hitting a road curb and the wall of a building, heavily damaging his vehicle.

The suspect fled the scene but was located by police at a gas station on Hamlet Avenue after the vehicle broke down.

Police believe the incident was the result of an altercation between the suspect and the victim.

No further information has been released at this time.
