UPDATE: Suspect in a deadly kidnapping will be returned to Massachusetts following a court appearance in Delaware

PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) : Louis Coleman, the suspect arrested in connection with the death of Jassy Correia appeared in Federal Court in Delaware on Monday. 

It was a quick detention and a transfer hearing that lasted a little less than 15 minutes. 

Coleman, represented by a public defender requested continued court appointed representation & and that further court appearances be held in Massachusetts.

He was ordered, detained & will be transferred to Massachusetts. 



The Providence man arrested in connection with the disappearance and death of a Boston woman will be extradited back to Rhode Island to face justice.

Louis D. Coleman III was arrested Thursday in Delaware and arraigned overnight as a Fugitive from another State after he was pulled over with the body of 23-year-old Jassy Correia, missing since Sunday, in the trunk of his vehicle.

According to court documents, Coleman is wanted in Providence on the following charges:

  • Kidnapping
  • Refusal to Report a Death with Intent to Conceal a Crime
  • Mutilation of a Dead Human Body

The Department of Justice said Coleman is being held awaiting transport back to Rhode Island.

In a press conference Friday, Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins said this is a complicated and complex case, but it should be tried in Boston. Adding that Correia’s family deserves to see justice served in their city.

“She was right where every woman has every right to be, celebrating her birthday with a night out with friends,” said Rollins.

When Coleman will go before a judge in Providence is not known at this time.
