EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The suspect in a string of robberies in Massachusetts and Rhode Island has been arrested at a Massachusetts casino, police said.

Following a joint investigation into armed bank robberies in several towns and cities, 31-year-old Joseph Hickson, of Walpole, was arrested while gambling at Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville.

Police said Hickson was connected to robberies in East Providence, Cranston, Walpole and Franklin, Mass., and was determined through investigation by East Providence Police to be at the casino.

Hickson was booked as a fugitive from justice and held overnight by Massachusetts State Police. He will be arraigned Thursday in Wrentham District Court.

Police said officers later obtained a warrant to search Hickson’s home and vehicle, and discovered evidence of his involvement in the robberies.

The joint investigation involved officers from East Providence, Cranston, Franklin, Walpole Police Departments, and Massachusetts State Police, The FBI and the R.I. Attorney General’s Office.
