Suspect takes a dive following police chase in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- A police chase in Providence ended with a pickup truck being submerged in the Seekonk River on Thursday afternoon.

Police say that the pickup truck had been stolen by 35-year-old Anthony Gonzalez.

Gonzalez had been pulled over on Point St. when he suddenly pulled out into traffic and struck another car. He sped away from the scene and eventually down the ramp at the Gano Park Boat Launch.

Gonzalez was able to get himself out of the truck after it plunged into the river.

He was arrested at the scene by Providence police officers.

Gonzalez is being charged with three counts of duty to stop accident resulting in damage to vehicle, reckless eluding, and possession of stole motor vehicle.
