Providence Police: Suspect wanted for shots fired, car chase

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Officers from the Providence, East Providence and the Rhode Island State Police Departments are searching for a suspect involved in a car chase Monday evening.

Providence Police told ABC6 News that an officer heard a single gunshot in the area of Potters Ave and Cahill Street around 12:15 p.m., and as they went to investigate, saw a blue Toyota Camry flee the scene at a high rate of speed.

The officer involved pursued the vehicle onto I-95, but broke off the chase when he suspect fled into East Providence on I-195.

The East Providence Police Department quickly engaged in pursuit of the vehicle, and followed the Camry back into Providence, along with troopers from the Rhode Island State Police.

During the pursuit, the vehicle crashed in the area of Broadway and Marshal Street, whereupon the suspect fled the scene on foot.

Responding officers searched the surrounding area to no avail.

The investigation is ongoing.
