Suspicious package detonated in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) – New Bedford police responded to a call at 6:45 Friday morning about a potential explosive device on Mosher St.

The device was discovered on the front porch of the residence by police. New Bedford police confirmed the New Bedford Fire Department, the Massachusetts State Police bomb squad, and the Explosive Ordinance Navy Team our of Newport also responded to the scene.

X-ray imaging confirmed the package was an improvised explosive device. The immediate area was evacuated as officials decided to conduct a controlled detonation.

The device was successfully destroyed without incident.

An investigation is ongoing.
