Swimmers pulled from water after shark sighting at Narragansett Town Beach

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) – Swimmers were pulled from the water at Narragansett Town Beach on Thursday after a shark sighting.

The Narragansett Fire Department confirms to ABC6 that a call came in just before noon of a shark spotted in the area of the Dunes Club.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) believes it was a thresher shark.

DEM spokesperson Mike Healey said there is a large amount of fish in the waters right now which the thresher sharks are chasing.

On Sunday, swimmers were evacuated from the water at East Beach in Charlestown after the same kind of shark was spotted.

Swimmers were allowed back in the water at Narragansett Town Beach approximately two hours after the sighting.
