A new task force has a big job in front of it.

The Lobbying Advisory Task Force aims to clarify and strengthen Rhode Island’s lobbying rules.

The group, made up of lobbyists, labor groups and lawyers, held its first meeting at the State House Thursday.

Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea formed the group, saying lobbying statutes are too complicated, and that laws regarding lobbying need to be more transparent, clear and consistent.

“The best way to provide a clear direction is to listen to a wide variety of people… to get a better lobbying statute.”

Secretary of State Gorbea wants this bill to overhaul the lobbying statutes to be introduced this session.
