Taunton man helps drive-by shooting victim outside his house

TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) – After hearing a drive-by shooting outside of his house, a Taunton man ran into potential danger to help.

Taunton resident Owen McCarthy spoke with ABC6 for the first time about what he saw in those scary moments.

Two weeks ago, McCarthy ran to a sidewalk in front of his home on Bay Street within seconds of hearing a popping sound.

“I knew it was a gun shot,” McCarthy said.

McCarthy said a vehicle tied to the shooting drove past him as he approached the 40-year-old victim on the sidewalk, who was bleeding profusely from his arm. He stayed with the victim while his fiancé called 911.

“It was kind of terrifying,” McCarthy said.

Now, neighbors remain on the lookout as police search for a suspect.

ABC6 reached out to Taunton police about this incident on Tuesday, but we still have not heard back.

The victim has been able to leave the hospital.
