TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A Taunton man was sentenced to state prison on Monday for “viciously” beating and terrorizing his girlfriend.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said Raymond Cruz, 32, pleaded guilty to charges of strangulation, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and domestic assault and battery.

In Dec. 2021, Cruz was arrested after his live-in girlfriend gave police camera footage of Cruz dragging her down a stairway, beating her with a belt, strangling her on the kitchen floor, and locking her out of the home.

This is not the first woman who has been assaulted by Cruz. Three women have filed restraining orders against Cruz for domestic violence. He’s also previously served time for domestic violence.

Cruz was sentenced to serve four to five years in state prison. Fall River Superior Court Judge Renee Dupuis additionally sentenced Cruz to three years of supervised probation.
