Taunton Police make arrest in connection with threatening note

TAUNTON, M.A. (WLNE) –  A female student was arrested for writing a threatening note that closed two schools on Tuesday.

Taunton Police would not release her identity, but said she is 16-years-old. She was charged with Threats to a School Causing Evacuation and Public Alarm.

On Monday, a Taunton High School employee found the note in the bathroom and reported it to police.

"Because the note included a specific threat directed at Taunton High School and made mention of Tuesday’s date, school was cancelled that day for students and faculty at Taunton High School and Parker Middle School and no after school activities were held," said the Taunton Police Department.

As school resumed Wednesday, 90% of students attended school, Taunton administration informed ABC6 News.

"This was a great cooperative effort by our detectives, school resource officers, school administrators and faculty to identify this individual," Taunton Police Lt. Eric Nichols said. "Student safety is one of our top priorities. We take situations like these with the utmost seriousness."

No further information is available at this time.
