The teenager charged with inappropriately touching a five-year-old girl at a Newport day care is the son of the owner says Lt. William Fitzgerald.

Gregory Johnson, an owner of the “tender care learning center” told ABC6 Wednesday night he legally couldn't tell parents about what happened but after our report he changed his mind and sent out a notice.

Parents were finally notified about the incident at their children's day care on Thursday.

Police say the 17–year–old son of Johnson, who worked as an unpaid intern, was caught on camera Tuesday inappropriately touching a five–year–old girl. Day care workers say the teen recieved a stipend for his work at the facility.

The notice, just sent to parents reads, in part “by now I am sure you have all heard about the child abuse allegations… we apologize for the media leak… and we are doing all we can to keep your children safe.”

The daycare remains open said police.
