Teen Dies after Fall from Mass. Ski Lift
SHREWSBURY, Mass. (AP) – Authorities say an 18-year-old high school student has died after apparently suffering a seizure and falling about 30 feet from a ski lift in Shrewsbury.
A spokesman for the Worcester district attorney's office said in a statement that John Street of Upton was at Ski Ward ski area for training with the Nipmuc Regional High School ski team.
He was found face down and unconscious on the icy ground at about 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
He was pronounced dead at a hospital about a half hour later. Fire officials said he was about one-third of the way up the chair lift when he fell and sustained a head injury.
The ski area's owner said the lift had no mechanical problems. An autopsy is planned to determine a cause of death.
