Teen to be charged as adult in 2021 Warren beating death

WARREN, R.I. (WLNE) — A teenager was charged as an adult and arraigned Friday on a murder charge.

Warren police said the juvenile, who has not yet been identified, will be tried as an adult on a murder charge in the 2021 death of 54-year-0ld Richard Raymond.

According to police, the deadly assault happened Aug. 26, 2021, on Market Street in Warren.

The juvenile was accused of striking  Raymond in the back of the head with an aluminum bat.

Police said they initially responded to multiple calls for a disturbance between two men that potentially involved a knife at the intersection of Market Street and Sanders Street.

Upon arrival, police found the two adults involved were at the scene with a third person, who was a juvenile.

The 54-year-old man was on the ground with severe injuries to his head, according to Warren police.

Raymond was brought to Rhode Island Hospital for life threatening injuries and was pronounced dead Sept. 12.

Police said the teenager was originally going to be charged in Family Court.

The juvenile was arraigned Friday in District Court and bail was set at $50,000.
