Teen without driver’s license flips car, seriously injured

WESTERLY, R.I. – A teen driver without a license was seriously injured Sunday when the car he was driving flipped over.

The 16-year-old was driving with four friends in the car when he crashed and hit an embankment in Watch Hill.

The passengers, all between the ages of 14 and 16 were not injured.

Interim Police Chief Shawn Lacey of Westerly police said the department would file charges after an investigation has been completed and the youth is released from the hospital.

The driver is in stable condition at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

He did not have a driver’s license, only a permit.
