PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A temporary ramp from Route 6 east to Route 10 south in Providence will open Wednesday night.

The new ramp is about 500 feet past the current exit and will use a loop design to get drivers onto Route 10 towards Cranston.

It will also connect with a closed section of the newly built Westminster Street bridge, then onto a new service road that links back to Route 10.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said it doesn’t expect “significant congestion” on the ramp, but encourages drivers to drive carefully.

RIDOT will install signs and pavement markings to guide drivers along the new ramp.

The ramp will be up for the next year, while the state demolishes and replaces the old bridge. That bridge is slated to open in the summer of 2023.
