The Historic Tappan house finally meets it’s end

Residents in Attleboro had to say goodbye to a piece of history.

Despite efforts from several groups to try

to save the Tappan house … which was built in 1880 … crews brought it down this morning.

The home was built by jewelry magnate Charles Tappan in 1901…

The twenty-seven room colonial mansion was most recently owned by Sturdy Memorial hospital, but it couldn't afford the upkeep and efforts to sell it , move it, and even give it away didn't work.

The only consolation for those who are saddened by the demolition is the Attleboro Historical society managed to save some artifacts from the house..There's no word on when or where they'll be on display….
