The truth behind ‘Big Papi for Mayor’

By Alana Cerrone

Could David Ortiz add “Mayor of Boston” to his list of accolades?

Well, not really. The World Series MVP may have received a lot of write-in votes in this week's Boston Mayor's race, but they don't actually count.

The Boston Election Office says that athletes and celebrities often get write-in votes, but unless they are requested they are not counted.

A representative with the Office also said that after the World Series win, they saw even more votes for Red Sox players.

The new Mayor-elect in the City of Boston is Marty Walsh.
