SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — After a dominating win last week against New York, the Smithfield Little League will host a prep rally to raise money for their trip to the World Series.

The prep rally will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the baseball field at Deerfield Park.

The money raised will be used for lodging, food, and other expenses for their trip.

Some businesses in Smithfield are also chipping in to support the team’s journey.

Laura’s Bar and Grill wrote on Facebook that it’s making “drinks for the dugout,” with 100% of the proceeds going to the Smithfield Little League team.

Over the weekend, Speaker Joe Shekarchi and Rep. Gregory Costantino each pledged $1,000 to help cover expenses for the team.

This is the first time in 72 years that the Smithfield Little League will be represented in the World Series.

The first game is on Aug. 16 at 3 p.m. in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
