Threat of assault rifle, pipe bombs forces evacuation of Providence City Hall
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police confirmed that the threat made to city hall was unfounded.
According to Col. Oscar Perez, an agitated man called police and told them he had an AR-15 and three pipe-bombs, one of which he claimed was at city hall.
According to police, the area was searched by officials and was cleared after all threats were unfounded.
No arrests have been made at this time.
The threats were made around 3 p.m. Tuesday. As a precaution, city hall and surrounding businesses were evacuated.
All restrictions have been lifted.
