PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence firefighters are battling a three alarm fire at 101 Stanwood St.

Significant smoke and fire showed from the building, and there was heavy damage in its second and third floor, Deputy Assistant Chief Robert Jackson said.

“There was some additional damage to the next-door church,” he said.

Four people were on the second floor of the building at the time of the fire, he added. They were transported to a hospital for evaluation of their injuries.

A firefighter also suffered a minor injury.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
