Three alarm fire runs through former Providence nightclub overnight

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- A fire broke out in a former nightclub in Providence early on Saturday morning.

The Providence Fire Department told ABC6 that the fire started at the old Van Gogh Lounge at about 2 a.m.

When firefighters arrived on the scene and were met with a large body of fire at the front of the building.

Officials said that the building was vacant at the time of the fire, but up to 10 homeless people live in the building.

The fire caused heavy damage to the front of the building. The rest of the building suffered from smoke and water damage.

The department said that one firefighter suffered a minor ankle injury during the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
