Three brands of greens recalled for possible listeria contamination

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Lancaster Foods has recalled a limited quantity of 3 brands of already-expired Robinson Fresh, Lancaster, and Giant brand Kale, Spinach and Collard Green products, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.

The recalled products originated from company’s Jessup, Maryland facility and were distributed through retailers and distributors in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

This recall is due to a possible contamination by Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, as well as miscarriages and stillbirths.

Healthy individuals may suffer short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea as well, the FDA said.

No reports of illness have occurred so far and all products are expired.
