Three injured in Portsmouth crash

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WLNE) – Three people were injured in a head-on car crash Thursday morning in Portsmouth.
Portsmouth Police responded to West Main Road at Hedly Street around 7:40 a.m. Thursday for reports of a multi-vehicle accident.
According to Police, a black Dodge Durango traveling north on West Main Road lost control and swerved into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with a second vehicle, and damaging two others.
Portsmouth Fire Department extracted the driver of the Dodge Durango, a 24-year-old man, from his vehicle and transported him to the hospital, along with two other people involved in the crash, with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the roadway was shut down for an hour following the crash.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
