Three men indicted after 8-month long investigation into shootings in Fall River

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) – Fall River police announced Friday an 8-month long investigation into multiple shootings has ended with a 27 count Grand Jury indictment.

Three men were indicted for four shootings that occurred in November 2020 and January 2021.

On November 8, 2020, shots were fired into a home on Lafayette St., and another shooting occurred at Tremont and Pine Streets minutes later.

On January 17, 2021, shots were fired into a home on Charles St. and a vehicle on North Eastern Avenue.

Carlton Albert, 32, Malik Staten, 24, and and Alex Castillo, 29, have been indicted and arrested.

“It does not matter how long it takes or how many resources are needed. We will identify and incarcerate those using illegal guns in Fall River,” said Chief Jeffrey Cardoza. “I would like to thank District Attorney Quinn, Detective Vertentes, and the Major Crimes Division for their relentless follow up on these shootings.”

Malik Staten is charged with:

  • Carrying/possessing a non-large capacity firearm in public without an LTC (3 counts)
  • Carrying a loaded firearm in public unlicensed (3 counts)
  • Possession of class D with intent to distribute
  • Operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license
  • Defacing personal property (2 counts)
  • Discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building

Carlton Albert is charged with:

  • Carrying/possessing a non-large capacity firearm in public without an LTC (4 counts)
  • Carrying a loaded firearm in public unlicensed (4 counts)
  • Defacing personal property (2 counts)
  • Discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building
  • Firearm violation with 3 prior violent/drug crimes (3 counts)
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID card (2 counts)

Alex Castillo is charged with:

  • Carrying a firearm without a license (2 counts)
  • Carrying a loaded firearm in public without a license (2 counts)
  • Firearm violation with 2 prior violent/drug crimes (2 counts)
  • Defacing personal property
  • Assault with a dangerous weapon
