Three UMASS Amherst Students suspended for not wearing masks in photograph from March

AMHERST, Mass. (WLNE) – Three freshmen students at UMASS Amherst have been kicked out of school for not wearing masks in a photo from March.

The photo of the three female students was posted on social media showing them at an off-campus party.

At the time the photo was taken, all UMASS students were ordered to stay in their dorms because of a surge in new COVID-19 cases in the area.

The father of one of the students in the photo spoke out against the school’s coronavirus policy in an interview with WCVB.

He claimed that the students who were involved in an on-campus party back in April for the Men’s Hockey Team weren’t punished.

“These beautiful young ladies were honor students and had their full academic years stripped away and their paths broken of their higher education for alleged covid violations, yet in the same period of time the university hosted a parade slash event to celebrate the UMass hockey team’s national championship win.”

UMASS Amherst responded by saying it was “regrettable” that many hockey players weren’t wearing masks but that the event happened when COVID-19 cases were much lower.
