P Tick Season 5pm.still001PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Just because summer is over, the threat posed by disease carrying ticks isn’t.

The Rhode Island Department of Health warns that the risk factors for tick borne illnesses, including Lyme, actually goes up in October and November.  In particular, this time of the year is peak time for the adult blacklegged tick.

The RIDOH and University of Rhode Island have several reminders that can help reduce your risk.  Experts says tucking in your shirt goes a long way in avoiding tick contact.  They also urge a quick tick check before going to bed.

RIDOH says many people let their guard down in autumn, thinking that cooler days means a lower tick threat.
