Tiverton Town Council Council accepts the motion to reject Tiverton Glen.

Yellow signs, held by Tiverton residents at Monday night's Town Council meeting, makes it clear where they stand on Tiverton Glen, a proposed development in the town…One of those unhappy residents, escorted out by police.
One by one, residents took to the podium giving their opinion on Tiverton Glen, which would include a hotel and conference center, rental apartments, and restaurants and stores. Most were opposed.

"…the greatest cost of all, in a front to our sensibilities, as our cherished green space is forever lost to big-box concrete,"says a Tiverton Resident.

This is the second time residents have come out to have their voices heard.

"We ended our last meeting…after hearing from about 60 or 65 residents. Some of them went home because it did end at about 11:30 at night, and we wanted to give the opportunity for them to speak again tonight, before we took any formal action," says Councilor Brett Pelletier.

The developer hoping to build in Tiverton, the Carpionato Group. They also built Chapel View in Cranston. Senior VP Kelly MacArthur Coates says Tiverton Glen would have a similar design.

"The project is estimated to cost between 100-120 million,"says Coates.

The proposed site spans from Souza Road to Route 24, covering 63 acres of land. Coates adds Chapel View has attracted national tenants and is an example of the success that can be had. "…that it's a proven success story of live, work and shop…at the same location."

But Tiverton residents are not sold.

"Tiverton is not Cranston, and I hope that it never is,"Says a Tiverton Resident.

The Council accepted the motion to reject the plan.
