Tiverton woman arrested for fraudulently obtaining over $26,000 in state benefits

Rhode Island State Police arrested a Tiverton woman for allegedly obtaining $26,896.79 from the state Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and RIte Care medical benefits.

Tiffany R. Briere, 31, of Tiverton, was arrested and charged with obtaining money under false pretenses over $1,500.00 and fraudulently obtaining assistance over $500.00.

The investigation started after a complaint from the Rhode Island Department of Human Services (DHS).

Briere intentionally under-reported her income so that she would be eligible for state benefits. During this time she received $3,478.00 in SNAP benefits and $23,418.79 in RIte Care benefits.

Brier was arraigned today, June 30th, and released on $20,000 personal recognizance.

For obtaining money under false pretenses over $1,500.00, she could face up to 10 years in prison, a $5,000 fine, or both. She could also face 5 years and a fine for $1,000 for fraudulently obtaining assistance.
