PawSox News Release

TOLEDO, Ohio — The PawSox suffered their second consecutive shutout loss, falling 3-0 to the Toledo Mud Hens on Monday night in the series opener at Fifth Third Field.

Pawtucket (50-50), which has only scored in one of its last 27 innings, only tallied five hits against the Mud Hens (44-55) and has now lost six straight games following a season-long eight-game winning streak.

PawSox starter Héctor Velázquez (L, 6-2) scattered eight hits over seven innings and only allowed two runs while collecting five punchouts. The 28-year old right-hander left two aboard in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and now has a 1.58 ERA in 13 Triple-A starts.

Pawtucket third baseman Matt Dominguez (2-for-3, 2B, BB) extended his hitting streak to 11 games. The 27-year old former first-round pick is 18-for-42 (.429) during the stretch with five multi-hit performances.

Toledo starter Josh Turley (W, 1-0) quieted the PawSox over five shutout innings in which he yielded three hits and three walks but stranded at least one runner in every frame. A trio of Mud Hens relievers, including prospect Joe Jimenez and former Red Sox righty Edward Mujica (S, 10), cemented the combined shutout.

Toledo third baseman Dominic Ficociello connected on a two-run home run in the second inning to power the Mud Hens to an early 2-0 advantage.

Mud Hens designated hitter Efren Navarro led off the bottom of the eighth inning by tripling off the right-field wall and later scoring on an RBI single from first baseman John Hicks.

Pawtucket continues its eight-game road trip Tuesday at 12:05 p.m. against the Toledo Mud Hens. PawSox right-hander Kyle Kendrick (3-7, 6.67) is scheduled to oppose Mud Hens lefty Anthony Vasquez (5-6, 4.44).
