BREAKING: Gianna Cirella, Soccer Player Battling Life-Threatening Infection Dies

The Toll Gate high school soccer player battling a life-threatening infection has died.

Gianna Cirella, 16, passed away Wednesday evening. The news was posted in the GIStrong Facebook page. 

The Toll Gate soccer team and the surrounding community rallied around 16-year-old Cirella, the Toll Gate Soccer Team’s goal tender , who was hospitalized in Hasbro’s ICU while fighting pnemonia and sepsis, a life-threatening blood infection. She had surgery to amputate her leg recently.

The team had hosted a canlde light vigil after their senior night soccer game Friday, October 27th on Bend Street in Warwick. 

A GoFundMe account was also set up to cover medical expenses, and in just one week, it’s raised $67,000. 

The Titans have worn purple at their games to show support for Cirella. 

Her 14-year-old sister Cassir, a freshman, scored the team’s lone goal in their first game following Gianna’s diagnosis.
