‘Topgolf Providence’ rebranded to ‘Topgolf Rhode Island’

CRANSTON, R.I (WLNE) — After Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins voiced his displeasure over the name of an incoming entertainment complex, the official name was released Friday.

Mayor Hopkins said that lawmakers and Topgolf officials agreed the facility will be named Topgolf Rhode Island, as opposed to Topgolf Providence.

Topgolf shared a rendering of the facility that will be built in Cranston.

Hopkins said in a release, “We are delighted to share that Topgolf has agreed to designate their new home in Cranston as Topgolf Rhode Island.”

“This is not a slight against the city of Providence and Mayor Smiley has been a good friend of mine since his administration took over,” Mayor Hopkins said.

“We have worked very hard with him as neighbors to make sure everything worked out for both of us,” he continued.

The symbolic decision is important to the city of Cranston by bringing recognition to the community that hosts the new entertainment and economic venture.

“Cranston is a hot spot right now and people want to come here. It is a safe city and we have some of the best restaurants and best shopping areas in the world,” Hopkins finished.
