Tornado downs trees, damages houses in North Attleborough

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE) — The North Attleborough Fire Department released a statement regarding the EF-1 tornado that touched down in town Friday.

In a social media post the department said that the tornado affected Mendon Road in between Huntsbridge Road and Monticello Drive as well as the area of Lindsay Acres.

The department confirmed that the storm downed trees and caused damage to homes, but that here were no reported injuries.

“The weather certainly has been different and challenging this summer as this storm came in very quickly and the tornado warning was immediate, with no watch period,” the department said.

The department also encouraged residents to sign up for Code Red Emergency Notifications on the town’s website, as the peak of hurricane season is approaching.

Heavy storms affected Massachusetts and Rhode Island on Friday, with the strongest tornado since 1986 touching down in the Ocean State.
