PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — If you plan to travel the 6/10 through Providence this weekend, you’ll want to either take note of this handy detour — or pack your patience.

As part of the $410 million Route 6/10 interchange project, Route 10 north where it meets Route 6 in Providence will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

During this time, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation repaves, lowers, and rebuilds a section of Route 10 north to match the same level as Route 10 south.

Here are turn-by-turn directions to detour the weekend’s construction:

  • Take exit 3B for Route 6 west
  • Take the next exit for Hartford Avenue
  • Turn left at the bottom of the ramp
  • Take the next left after the underpass for Route 6 east
  • Follow signs to Route 10 north

You can expect some changes on Hartford Avenue, too. While drivers taking the detour won’t have to face any red lights, it will be reduced from four lanes to two.

The roadway revamp of the 6/10 interchange is the largest design-build project in the Department of Transportation history, serving about 100,000 cars per day.
