Truck hauling bananas rolled over on Massachusetts Turnpike

MASSACHUSETTS (WLNE) – Massachusetts State Police responded to a rolled over truck carrying bananas at 8:00 AM on Sunday.

According to police, the rollover happened eastbound on MassPike at exit 18 (Brighton/Cambridge), and three lanes of traffic were shut down.

Hazmat techs were called to the scene when the truck began to leak fuel, and an attempt to save the bananas began as the truck was being uplifted.

In an update from Massachusetts State Police, officers said the bananas had to be condemned.

Massachusetts State Police Truck Team responds to all serious crashes involving commercial trucking, in order to investigate vehicle compliance.

The cause of the crash is not known at this time.
