Two arrested in connection to Smithfield teen DUI crash

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE)– Two men have been charged with providing alcohol to minors in connection to a Smithfield crash on May 30 that saw one teen injured and another charged with driving under the influence.

Smithfield police today announced that Scott Rego, 22, of Medway, Massachusetts was charged with three counts of procurement of alcohol for minors. Police say Rego provided the alcohol at a party that led to the crash. Rego was given a $5,000 dollar personal recognizance bail, and will be seen in court again September 8.

Kyle Joyce, 18, of Smithfield , was also charged  with possession of alcohol by a minor and procurement. Joyce was released with a summons and will be arraigned on September 22.

Police had been called to the scene o f the accident just before 1:30 a.m. on May 30, finding a car flipped on its roof. A 17-year-old female was described as seriously injured and taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for treatment.

The driver, an 18-year-old female, was charged with driving under the influence–serious bodily injury resulting and reckless driving.

Two sixteen-year-old male passengers were uninjured in the accident.
