Two Arrested in Providence Assault

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – State police say they were called in to help Providence officers during a disturbance involving nearly 100 people outside a pizza parlor in the city's East Side. Two men were arrested nearby on assault charges.

City police requested aid from troopers shortly after 2 a.m. Friday on Thayer Street. A trooper says he was driving to the scene when he was waived down by a person who said two men were attacking another man.

Police charged 24-year-old Antonio Gass of Providence and 31-year-old Jerry Nicoleau of North Providence with simple assault for allegedly kicking the victim in the face several times. The
victim is being treated for minor injuries at Rhode Island Hospital.

The cause of the disturbance outside the pizza parlor isn't clear. No other injuries were reported.
