Two hospitalized after car crashes into tree on Dean Parkway

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE): Two males were hospitalized after a car hit a large tree on Dean Parkway, which caused the engine compartment to catch fire, according to the Cranston Police Department. 

The driver was a 35-year-old male from Massachusetts and was transported to the Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. The passenger, a 34-year-old male, also from Massachusetts was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries. 

The 2005 black Audi sedan was traveling west on the parkway when it drifted off the right side of the roadway and hit the tree. The Cranston Fire Department arrived on the scene within minutes and extinguished the fire, according to police. 

The police believe that impaired driving is the cause of the accident. 

The Cranston Police Department is continuing to investigate the crash.
