Two indicted for robbery and assault of U.S. Postal Carrier, trafficking drugs
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Cunha has announced charges against two Providence men for allegedly robbing and assaulting a U.S. Postal Service carrier and trafficking of more than 500 grams of cocaine.
Juan Bautista Roasrio-Sandoval, 29, is charged with conspiracy to assault and rob a U.S. mail carrier, assault and robbery of a U.S. mail carrier, and conspiracy to possess more than 500 grams of cocaine.
Duralline Azcona Rodriguez, 24, is charged with conspiracy to possess more than 500 grams of cocaine.
According to prosecutors, Rosario-Sandoval and another unknown subject attempted to forcibly take a Priority Mail Express Parcel addressed to a Providence address. When the carrier refused to give them the piece of mail, the two individuals allegedly opened the doors to the postal vehicle and punch and pull at the carrier eventually fleeing with the package. The indictment alleges that Rodriguez was in a nearby vehicle to assist in getting the package from the carrier.
