Two juveniles arrested on gun charges in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) – New Bedford police arrested two juvenile men on gun charges following a chase Thursday.

According to police, detectives got information that a gang conflict was escalating. Individuals involved in the conflict were riding scooters and wearing dark, heavy clothes. When they noticed police, they began operating erratically to avoid them.

One 16-year-old dumped his moped and was arrested. Police say during the struggle, the boy reached for his waistband. Police were able to secure him and found a loaded .22 revolver on him. He was also found to be in possession of around 4 grams of crack cocaine.

A 17-year-old also got off his moped and was chased on foot. Police say he was seen reaching into his waistband and throwing a loaded .380 caliber semi-auto into a yard. He was arrested.

Both juveniles were charged with multiple motor vehicle offenses, and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition during the commission of a felony. The 16-year-old also is charged with possession with intent to distribute crack.
