Two men charged for assault with machete

The Wareham Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance in the area of Onset Ave. and East Blvd.

It happened on Friday, August 1st, around 1:30 PM, when a fight between several males broke out and one person was said to have brandished a machete.

The man carrying the machete left the scene before Police stopped him about a mile away.

The driver was identified as Kohlbey Hammond, 22, of Onset, MA, and his passenger, as Aurthor Mpofu, 20, of West Wareham, MA.

The black machete was located in the back seat hidden under clothing items.

Hammond told police his vehicle was struck by a rock and he pulled over to confront the male who threw it.

Mpofu stated he took out the machete to defend himself during the altercation.

The victim made a statement to police saying both Hammond and Mpofu chased him and a friend while swinging the machete.

There were no injuries reported.

Mpofu was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and Hammond was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (joint venture). Both are being held until arraignment in Wareham 4th District Court on Monday, August 4th.
