Investigation continues into double homicide outside Providence nightclub

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Two men are dead following a shooting outside a Providence nightclub on West Friendship Street before 2:30 Saturday morning.

These killings, marking Providence’s 14th and 15th homicides of the year in the city.

The two men were identified by Providence Police on Monday as 27-year-old Mario Diaz of Boston and 29-year-old Kerwins Pimental of Mattapan.

The Fuego Lounge will be temporarily shut down by the Providence Board of Licenses for 72 hours, following the shooting.

The board said this shutdown is standard procedure following an incident like a shooting.

The violence we saw in our City last night is beyond inexcusable,” said Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza.

Police hadn’t made any arrests after the deadly double shooting as of Saturday morning.

“While the perpetrators and victims of this violence are likely known to each other, the cycle of gun violence and retaliation must end. We know that our community is already reeling from a global pandemic and now we have experienced even more tragic loss of life due to senseless acts of violence,” the mayor continued.
